How I work

You bring what life feels like from the inside. I help you notice patterns, put words to what is difficult, and explore what you could do differently.

Your pace. Our attention. A direction we find together.

The hour

You do not have to do all the figuring-out.

Fifty minutes with someone paying close attention. You decide what matters to you; I take an active part in helping us understand it.

We start with what is happening for you. I ask questions, reflect back what I hear, and help connect things that may feel separate. You can correct me. Getting closer to your experience matters more than my first interpretation.

We might notice a familiar pattern: taking responsibility for someone else’s feelings, dismissing your own needs, or explaining a hurt without letting yourself feel it. We explore what that response has done for you and what it costs now.

Sometimes the useful thing is happening as we talk: your voice changes, you go quiet, or you start apologising for taking up time. With your agreement, I help us pause and explore it. You can always decline.

Your first session

What happens, in order.

So that none of it has to be a surprise.

  1. Step 1

A free intro chat first, if you want one

15 minutes, free, and no notes taken. Camera off is fine, and you can read from a list of questions. It is mostly so you can hear what I sound like before you decide anything.

  2. Step 2

    Before we start properly

I go through fees, session length, confidentiality and its limits, and my professional status. You can ask anything, and nothing is assumed.

  3. Step 3

The first session begins with what brings you here

Not a full history. Just enough that I understand what you are carrying at the moment. If you would rather start somewhere smaller, we start there.

  4. Step 4

At some point I will ask what you would want to be different

If you do not know, that is a real answer and we work from there. You will not be asked to set a goal you do not have.

  5. Step 5

Then you decide whether to come back

There is no package and no minimum number of sessions. Weekly usually works best, though fortnightly or another rhythm can work if we agree it together.

Fees and format

$140 per 50-minute session. I currently provide individual counselling only, online. Reduced-fee places are limited and we can talk about one on the intro chat.

Things you can ask for

You do not have to earn any of these.

We can adapt the session so you have more attention for the work itself.

  • Camera off, for one session or for all of them.
  • Silence, for as long as you need it.
  • Notes, a script, or a list you read from.
  • Time to answer, including saying you want to think about it and come back next week.
  • Slower. Or a change of subject, without explaining why.
  • Anything important in writing, so you are not relying on remembering it.

What I bring

Understanding is a start. We also explore what comes next.

My work is person-centred and relational. We use the relationship, and ideas that fit the moment, to explore your choices.

We might question a story you have come to believe about yourself, make space for a difficult feeling, or work out what matters to you in a decision. Narrative and acceptance-based ideas can help us do that; I explain what I am offering and why.

When it helps, we can practise a conversation, explore a boundary, or agree on a small step to try between sessions. We come back to what happened and adjust. If the work is not helping, I want us to name that and decide what needs to change.

Also support with

Other things you may be carrying.

You do not need the perfect category before getting in touch.

Anxiety and stress

Support for worry, overwhelm, and the sense that your system never quite stands down.

Grief and loss

Space for bereavement, break-ups, lost futures, and quieter forms of grief.

Loneliness and isolation

Support when you feel disconnected, outside the group, or hard to fully know.

Trauma and recovery

Room for what happened, at a pace you set. I am not a trauma specialist, and I will say so plainly if you need one.
